Language-learning technology, grounded in research.

Language learning works best when practice is tuned to the individual: to what a learner already knows, what they are ready to take on next, and what they want to read or hear about. Fit at that level of detail has historically been the job of a tutor, and out of reach for most learners.

Pindu Labs builds software for that kind of individualized practice. We model what learners already know and shape materials around them, drawing on research in applied linguistics and second-language acquisition.

Our first product is Pindu, a Chinese reading tool integrated with Anki. It generates passages calibrated to a learner's vocabulary, presents them in a reader, and credits each word as a real spaced-repetition review as the learner reads. Pindu is free, hosted as an Anki add-on, and used today by hundreds of learners. You can try it at readpindu.com.

We are now extending this approach to institutional use cases: universities, language schools, and learning platforms that need to deliver appropriately leveled reading material to learners with diverse vocabulary backgrounds. If that overlaps with your work, in research or in practice, we would like to hear from you.
